Support Groups

NAMI Family Support Group 

1st Thursday of every month

Family Support Groups are free, peer-led support groups for any adult with a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. The group offers insight into the challenges and successes of others facing similar experiences. This is not for the individual themselves but for family and friends who support them.

NAMI WI Peer Support Group

1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month

Peer Support Groups  are free, confidential, and safe groups open to any adult individual who identifies as living with a mental illness or mental health concern. Groups follow a flexible structure and include an educational activity. Individuals join a caring group of peers that offer support through their learned wisdom and participants can share as much or as little personal information as they wish.​

NAMI  Family-to Family  is a an 8-class education program for friends and family members of adults living with mental health condition. The course is not only provides information and strategies for taking care of the person you love, but you’ll also find out that you’re not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope.

 

The group setting of NAMI Family-to-Family provides mutual support and shared positive impact—experience compassion and reinforcement from people who understand your situation. Sharing your own experience may help others in your class. In the program, you’ll learn about:

  • How to solve problems and communicate effectively

  • Taking care of yourself and managing your stress

  • Supporting your loved one with compassion

  • Finding and using local supports and services

  • Current information on mental health conditions and how they affect the brain

  • How to handle a crisis

  • Current treatments and therapies

  • The impact of mental health conditions on the entire family

NAMI  Hearts & Minds  is a an 5-class wellness program designed to educate and empower individuals to better manage their health — mentally and physically. This is a class for both peers and family members. There is a clear and critical need to care for mental and physical health simultaneously. Understanding this connection and synergy is vital to overall wellness. In the program, participants will learn about:​

  • How to advocate for your health

  • How physical and mental health are specifically connected

  • Gut health and how nutrition can affect the brain

  • Current information on the interplay of diet and fitness — and how they can influence your symptoms

  • Effective methods for managing the side effects of medication

  • Substance abuse and smoking cessation

  • How to gain a greater sense of control over how you feel

NAMI  Peer-to-Peer is a an 8-class program for adults living with a mental health challenge. The class content includes a wide range of topics related to mental health wellness designed to assist individuals in reaching and maintaining mental wellness, including information on various aspects of mental health and recovery.  Classes follow a structured educational format that includes opportunity for peer connection and support through learned wisdom and group discussion. The goal of NAMI Peer-to-Peer  is to provide current information and resources around the major mental illnesses and recovery while also providing specific skills around maintaining and enhancing individual recovery. Specific elements of the program include: ​​

  • Current information about the major mental illnesses and the most current research available on the biological aspects of these illnesses. 

  • Current information on the possibilities for living in recovery, including a variety of treatment strategies currently available. 

  • Specific skills training in the areas of problem solving, listening, communication techniques and handling crises and relapse. 

  • Guidance on locating appropriate supports and services within the community and offer tips of advocating for those supports and services.

NAMI Basics OnDemand

NAMI  The OnDemand program is also guided by parents and family members with lived experience but is self-paced and available 24/7. OnDemand offers the flexibility of participating in the course on  your  schedule. NAMI Basics covers:

  • Managing crises, solving problems and communicating effectively 

  • How to take care of yourself and handle stress 

  • Developing the confidence and stamina to support your child with compassion 

  • Advocating for your child’s rights at school and in health care settings 

  • Learning about current treatments, including evidence-based therapies, medications and side effects 

  • Gaining an overview of the public mental health care, school and juvenile justice systems 

  • Understanding the challenges and impact of mental health conditions on your entire family
